Domain · Product strategy
What it covers
The one exception to "platform only responds to signals". Strategic product decisions about what Rentiful fundamentally is — the external product surface, the multi-year roadmap, and the balance between strategic product work and loop-blocker work.
Activities
- Defining the external product surface — what operators and renters experience.
- Strategic roadmap — distinct from the loop-blocker queue.
- Prioritisation between strategic product work and loop-blocker work.
Operations
Product roadmap operation
Strategy Loop priority reset (or material signal) → roadmap updated → communicated to all loop owners → embedded into the queue alongside loop-blocker work.
External product surface design operation
Roadmap item affecting external surfaces → surface designed for all relevant branding contexts (Rentiful-branded, White Label partner-branded) → specced for build.
Priority balancing operation
Tension surfaced between product-strategy items and loop-blocker items → impact of each on primary loops assessed → decision made and communicated.
Notes
This domain is where the Platform Loop is not a pure service function. Strategic product decisions shape what the other loops can do — a decision to invest in, say, a new integration surface is a strategic bet that reshapes the opportunity for the primary loops. These decisions come through the Strategy Loop, not through the Platform Loop's own imagination.
The discipline: product strategy expresses decisions that came from the Strategy Loop. The Platform Loop is not where strategy is invented.
